Wine & Brine Pairings

What types of wine pair best with pickled products?

Pickled vegeteables need something light, crisp, and fruity to handle the acidity. A sharply flavoured white like a picpoul or pinot grigio should do the trick. Sipping a dry Bordeaux, while eating meat with a vinegary chutney will kill the wine. Take care.

Add some unique pickled products to complement your wines

Coriander Chutney

W recommend pairing the pickled strawberries with a Jackson-Triggs Vidal Icewine from the Niagara Peninsula in Canada. “The sweetness of the icewine balances out the high acidity and tartness of the pickled strawberries.

Pickled Pineapple & Habenaro Peppers

We suggest a rosé to match with the pickled pineapple, specifically the light and fruity Moulin De Gassac 2011 Guilhem Rouge from Pays d’Hérault in the Languedoc. “It’s Grenache based and has simple but pleasant, ripe red fruit characteristics with a touch of rose petal,”

Pickled Shrimp

Pickled Shrimp goes best with a wine that is crisp acidity and has neral notes

Pickled Parsnip

The fruitiness of the parsnips play well off a wine with white pepper notes and the pepperiness of the turnips plays well off of the strawbedark-plum notes.

Cheese & Chutney

Pairing wine with acidic foods (such as pickles and chutneys with your cheese) can really help to make the wine taste better.
